While many non-surgical treatments can help you look younger, the results are temporary. Women and men choose Facelift and Necklift procedure to provide dramatic, yet natural-looking facial rejuvenation that may last 5 to 10 years.
A facelift is most often performed on men and women over the age of 40. It can help you look 5 to 10 years younger by lifting sagging skin on the face and neck, tightening lax muscles, defining the jawline and neck, reducing a double-chin.
For an even greater facial rejuvenation, you may choose to combine a facelift with other procedures such as eyelid surgery or a brow lift.
The facelift procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. The incisions are made around your ears and behind your hairline. Once healed, these incisions create very discreet scars that remain almost completely hidden by your natural hair growth.
During the procedure, the underlying muscles system (SMAS) of your lower face and neck, are surgically tightened and lifted to reduce the drooping appearance. The extra skin is removed to create a smooth, youthful contour.
Facelift surgery typically lasts between 3 and 5 hours. The results of facelift surgery can be very long-lasting especially if you take proper care of your skin after surgery. This includes avoiding smoking and keeping your skin well protected from the sun.
However, since facelift surgery temporarily “freezes” the aging process, you may continue to look younger than your peers indefinitely.
Before surgery, Dr Ballieux will give you specific recovery instructions for face-lift patients. While patient experiences vary, you can expect recovery to follow this general timeline:
First 1 to 2 Days
You will need a friend or family member to drive you home after the surgery, to stay with you for the first 24 hours, and possibly a day or so longer.
Sleeping in a sitting or propped up with pillows will help minimize swelling.
Some temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness of the neck can be expected.
You can use medication prescribed by your plastic surgeon to control discomfort, if needed.
Follow-up Appointment
You will have a follow-up appointment approximately 5 days after surgery.
Return to Work
Most patients are ready to return to their everyday activities within 1-2 weeks, and physical activities are limited for one month or more.
Face Lift is a frequently performed and is a safe procedure. However, no surgery is completely without risks.
There is a risk of infection, bleeding, bruising, swelling, damage to the nerves that control facial muscles and sensation, or reaction to anaesthesia.
A comprehensive list of instructions for surgery preparation and post-operative care will be provided to each patient. These instructions should be followed carefully for the best possible outcome.
Certain over the counter products and prescription medicines can cause complications before and after surgery. Do not take any medication containing or related to aspirin two weeks prior to your procedure. This includes NSAID’S, anti-Inflammatory medications, blood thinning medication. Please see your doctor regarding if and when to cease medication. This is not an all-inclusive list. Also avoid Vitamin E supplements and red wine. Stop all herbal medications before surgery. The most common herbs used are Echinacea, Ephedra, Garlic, Ginseng, Ginkgo, Kava, St. John’s Wort, and Valerian. They may adversely affect anaesthetic drugs, prolong bleeding and impair healing after surgery.
Smoking increases the risks of complications significantly and should be ceased 6 to 8 weeks prior to surgery.
The cost of a Face lift procedure depends on the complexity of the procedure starts from 7,000 euros. These costs will be discussed with you in consultation.
An iPad with before & after pictures to illustrate the results will be available.
