Blepharoplasty in Brussels aims to reduce or completely eliminate unsightly defects in the skin of the eyelids. This so-called rejuvenation operation can focus on all 4 eyelids at once. It can also target only the lower or upper eyelids. The principle is based on the removal of excess skin or fat around the eyes.

The aim of this operation is to remove the excess skin present on the upper eyelid. Under local anaesthesia, Dr Ballieux makes the incision in the upper eyelid fold. The stitches are removed 5-7 days after the procedure. It can also be done under general anaesthesia in a day hospital.
You can also have this surgery only for the lower eyelids. Or perform both at the same time. The lower blepharoplasty consists in eliminating the excess fat present under the lower eyelids as well as the dark circles which give this hallowed and tired aspect. This fat leading to the excess skin under the eye socket can be repositioned or removed through the skin. This is responsible for the dark circles under our eyes. This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia for your comfort in a day hospital and does not alter your visual field in any way.
There is also a cosmetic surgery whose aim is to create a palpebral fold or to reposition it. Asian blepharoplasty is performed on patients with Asian shaped eyelids. The absence of this crease can cause a look of tiredness or the impression of a closed eye. Your eyes will appear larger, almond-shaped. The scar from this type of surgery is barely visible. It is located at the eyelid crease and is almost invisible whether your eye is open or closed.
The recovery time after the operation is variable. It depends on the type of operation but also on its complexity. The anaesthesia factor also plays a role in the recovery phase. In general, it is as follows:
Every surgical operation carries a risk, even the smallest one. The reaction of the internal tissues cannot be anticipated. Whatever the procedure you undergo, there may be a risk of:
You will be informed of the possible risks during a consultation with Dr Ballieux before the operation.
We advise not to take any medication containing aspirin 2 weeks before the surgery. These increase the chances of bleeding during and after the surgery. If you have any questions about stopping any medication, please contact Dr Ballieux. We also recommend stopping all herbal medications, protein powders and vitamin E. They may interfere with the products you are taking. They can interfere with the anaesthetic products, complicate healing and increase bleeding.
Dr Ballieux recommends that you stop smoking 4-6 weeks before the operation. Smoking, either before or after, can cause complications in the healing process.
The costs for this type of operation start from 1750 euros when it is performed under local anaesthetic. They include the practitioner’s fees as well as the costs of the operating theatre, a possible hospitalisation, the material and the follow-up. These fees may vary depending on the complexity of the operation.
A digital photo album illustrating the before and after results will be made available to patients in consultation.

I also had my dark circles and bags under my eyes erased and it literally gave me a fresher, younger look. I would definitely do it again!
